By Fred Kroner

The Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team made history on Friday (Feb. 17) when it won a Class 3A regional championship at home over Normal West, 58-26.

The Bulldogs’ defense allowed just three second-half field goals.

For the first time in school history, the girls’ basketball program has captured back-to-back regional titles. The current senior class has put together more wins in a two-year period (54) than any other senior class since the program was formed in 1977.

Savannah Orgeron led M-S with 22 points. Kylie Waldinger added nine points, Abby Bunting scored eight points, Durbin Thomas had seven points and Chloe Pruitt ended with six points.

Bunting pulled down a team-best six rebounds. Thomas handled five rebounds, Reese Gallier grabbed four rebounds and Pruitt claimed three rebounds.

Bunting had three steals and Waldinger ended with two steals.

M-S (24-9) returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 21) in a Class 3A sectional semifinal game against Rochester in Rochester.

The Bulldogs have won six of their last eight games.
