Mahomet-Seymour Shines at Champaign Central Invitational, Securing Multiple Top Finishes and Third Overall

Two Mahomet-Seymour athletes won individual events on Saturday (April 20) at the Champaign Central girls’ track and field invitational at McKinley Field and a third Bulldog was a placer in three different field events.

The Bulldogs finished third in the varsity division of the nine-school invitational. Meet champion Central logged 173 points. M-S ended with 99 points.

The Bulldogs’ event winners were Kara Carney and Kelsie Fuoss.

Carney captured top honors in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal-best 47.20 seconds. Fuoss tied for first place in the pole vault (10 feet, 5 inches).

Hannah Martin claimed top-five finishes in the discus and two jumping events. She tied for second in the high jump (4 feet, 5 inches), finished fourth in the discus (personal-best 79 feet, 3 inches) and ended fifth in the triple jump (30 feet, 7 inches).

Three M-S participants wound up in third place: Anniston Huff (personal-best 2:31.75 in the 800 meters), Chloe Bundren (5:53.59 in the 1,600 meters) and Alyssa Gray (14 feet, 8 inches in the long jump).

Ayla Finfrock led a 4-5 finish for the Bulldogs in the 200 meters. Finfrock was timed in 28.74 seconds. Kira Smith was fifth in 29.68 seconds.

Winding up in fifth place for M-S were: Emma Frazier (personal-best 2:34.81 in the 800 meters), Jaci Kellenberger (personal-best 12:48.77 in the 3,200 meters) and Delia Ann Stout (personal-best 7 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault).

Claire Johnson registered a pair of top-10 performances. She was sixth in the triple jump (personal-best 28 feet, 9 inches) and eighth in the long jump (13 feet, 5 inches).

The Bulldogs’ other top-10 individuals were Kaile Jeffers (seventh in the 1,600 meters in a personal-best 6:32.47), Adelyn Boyd (eighth in the 300-meter hurdles in 56.83 seconds), Kylee Bell (ninth in the shot put at 23 feet, 5 inches), Kyndl Zehr (10th in the shot put at 23 feet) and Selma Tilton (10th in the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-best 20.10 seconds).

M-S had three relay entries finish either first or second.

The junior varsity 800-meter relay grouping of Finfrock, Molie Schifo, Gray and Tilton took first in 1:55.38.

The JV 400-meter unit, featuring Boyd, Finfrock, Schifo and Gray posted a second-place finish in 55.70 seconds.

Also ending in the runner-up slot was the varsity 3,200-meter relay. Sharing the baton were Emily Anand, Taylor Mills, Cora Ummel and Katherine Simmons. Their cumulative time was 10:27.78.

The Bulldogs’ 800-meter varsity relay wound up in fifth place. The runners were Simmons, Isabelle Scheele, Smith and Ummel. Their combined time was 1:57.94.

The M-S varsity 1,600-meter relay came in third in 4:23.10.

M-S will return to action on Tuesday (April 23) in a four-school meet at Rantoul.
