Cortez Leads Mahomet-Seymour to Victory with Power Hitting in 18-7 Rout of Urbana

Madeleine Cortez pounded a single, a double and a triple on Wednesday (April 17) to spark the Mahomet-Seymour softball team to an 18-7 win at home over Urbana.

Rio Casillas also swatted three hits for M-S, which led 6-0 after one inning.

Brooklyn Dyer, Kalista Granadino, Brooke Hartman, Ava Henderson and Madelyn Logsdon each recorded two hits.

Casillas, Cortez and Hartman all tallied three runs. Granadino and Olivia Minor crossed home plate twice each.

Henderson delivered three RBI. Knocking in two runs each were Casillas, Cortez, Dyer and Hartman.

Henderson pitched 4 2/3 innings. She walked four and struck out nine. Katherine Severns faced one batter and needed one out to wrap up the win.

On Monday (April 15), Mahomet-Seymour’s softball team nearly recovered from a seven-run deficit, but fell short, 7-6, at Champaign Central.

The Bulldogs trailed, 7-0, after three innings.

Cortez and Hartman both produced two hits for the Bulldogs. Dyer, Granadino and Logsdon all contributed one hit.

Dyer drove in three runs. Cortez, who socked a triple, had one RBI.

Hartman scored two of the M-S runs. Crossing home plate once each were Casillas, Cortez, Granadino and Minor.

Henderson pitched six innings and recorded seven strikeouts.

M-S (4-10) returns to action on Thursday (April 18) at Charleston.
