M-S wrestling reaches 20-win mark

The Bulldogs reached the 20-win mark on Tuesday (Jan. 18) by shutting out Charleston, 82-0, and Lincoln, 62-12, in Apollo Conference dual meets at Mattoon.

M-S is 20-3 overall and 3-0 in the Apollo.

Bulldog wrestlers had a cumulative 25-3 record for the night, winning 12 bouts by pin, 10 by forfeit, one by technical fall, one by major decision and one by a regular decision.

Five M-S grapplers won twice without receiving a forfeit.

Caden Hatton (106 and 113 pounds) posted two pins as did Braeden Heinold (152 pounds), Colton Crowley (220 pounds) and Camden Harms (285 pounds).

Heinold’s second win of the night, a pin in 3 minutes and 6 seconds over Lincoln’s Dawson McConnell, was the 100th career varsity victory for the senior co-captain.

At 160 pounds, Jacob Dobbins piled up the points, outscoring two opponents by a combined 31-8 margin.

Bulldogs who were 2-0 for the night with one pin and one forfeit win were Tallen Pawlak (138 pounds), Nicholas Demos (170 pounds) and Stevie Pogue (182 pounds).

Gage Decker (132 pounds) had a decision win and picked up a forfeit. Logan Petro (145 pounds) was 1-1, earning a pin for his win. Reese Wilson (126 pounds) and Mateo Casillas (195 pounds) each received two forfeits.

Lukas Alstetter (106 pounds) and Isabelle Leyhe (120 pounds) both received one forfeit win.

M-S returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 20) at Champaign Central in a meet that will also include Urbana and Pontiac.
