Bulldogs defeat Champaign St. Matthew

Mahomet-Seymour’s undefeated junior high boys’ basketball teams both posted convincing wins on the road on Tuesday (Nov. 28) at Champaign St. Matthew.The eighth-grade Bulldogs were triumphant 56-26. The seventh-graders prevailed, 59-14.The eighth-graders were led by Tristan Adams, with 12 points. Luke Buh hit seven points. Colin Hammerschmidt and Preston Clark both notched six points.Jackson Golden and Levi Lunney recorded four points apiece. Contributing three points apiece were Brennan Bailey, Camden Beedy and Collin Whooley. Totaling two points each were Preston Branson, Konner Fisher, Bradley Jones and Wil Selk.The eighth-graders are 9-0.The M-S seventh-graders developed a 29-8 halftime lead and then kept St. Matthew scoreless in the third stanza as the lead increased to 45-8.Evan Franz and Tyler Schoudel both collected three three-pointers and shared the team-lead in scoring with nine points.A.J. Fenelus tallied eight points and was followed on the team leaders’ list by Sammy Perez (six points), Jaxson Tiefenthaler (six points), Owen Henry (five points), Caleb Knox (four points), Nathan Stabler (four points), Jackson Dancer (three points), Logan Rehberg (three points) and Will Martin (two points).Perez was 2-for-2 for the free throw line and was the only Bulldog to attempt free throws.Besides Franz and Schoudel, other M-S players who hit three-pointers were Dancer, Henry and Rehberg.The seventh-graders are also 9-0. Both M-S squads return to action on Thursday (Nov. 30) at Rantoul Eater.
