Scheele places first at Normal West Indoor Boys’ Track and Field Invitational

Senior Joseph Scheele was the lone winner for Mahomet-Seymour on Saturday (Feb. 26th) in the 28-school Normal West Indoor Boys’ Track and Field Invitational at The Shirk Center, in Bloomington.

Scheele’s time of 4 minutes, 32.76 seconds gave him a margin of victory of 1.32 seconds.

No team scores were tabulated.

The Bulldogs had third-place finishers from three other individuals and one relay. 

Tyler Lewis was third in the 400 meters (54.53), Grant Smysor was third in the freshmen-sophomore 1,600 meters (5:09.29) and Kyle Nofziger was third in the 3,200 meters (10:09.31).

The M-S freshmen-sophomore 1,600-meter relay unit of Josh Franklin, Kaden Jackson, Blake Dillman and Lukas Carey teamed up for a 3:56.10 clocking and a third-place showing.

Four other individuals and one other relay captured top-10  finishes.

Cole Marshall was sixth in the triple jump (11.92 meters or 39 feet, 1 inch), Ty Clark tied for seventh in the pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches), Dillman was eighth in the 800 meters (2:12.59) and Gabe Labbe was 10th in the long jump (5.64 meters or 18 feet, 5 inches).

The freshmen-sophomore 3,200-meter quartet of Lukas Carey, Kaleb Kasper, Zachary Wilcoski and Ethan Ramirez took fifth in 10:02.64.

Three other Bulldog individuals and three other relay entries placed among the top 15.

Labbe was 11th in the triple jump (11.29 meters or 37 feet), Alex Carpenter was 12th in the pole vault (10 feet) and Jaxon Themanson was 14th in the 60-meter hurdles (11.74 seconds).

M-S’ 1,600-meter varsity relay ended in 12th place. Sharing the baton were Deangelo Hughey, Lewis, Avery Seaman and Julian Eckley. Their combined time was 3:50.28.

The 800-meter relay foursome of Jayvon Irwin, Erik Christianson, Vincent Lee and Travis Hoffman were timed in 1:43.90 and finished in 13th.

Capturing 14th was the 3,200-meter unit of Karsten Waisath, Hayden Grotelueschen, Avery Seaman and Julian Eckley. Their cumulative time was 10:00.39.

The Bulldogs had three shot put placers: Robert Byron was 18th (37 feet, 7 inches), Caleb Boykin was 20th (37 feet, 3 inches) and Ethan Trail was 30th (34 feet).

Marshall landed 16th in the long jump (5.41 meters or 17 feet, 7 inches) and Dylan Smith was 17th in the 200 meters (26.51).

Sprinters Hughey (21st in 7.47 seconds) and Irwin (30th in 7.71 seconds) were 60-meter participants.

The other M-S relay entry was the 18th-place finishing freshmen-sophomore grouping of Alex O’Brian, Smith, Lars Kellner and Will Anderson. They stopped the clock in 1:52.88.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday (March 12) at Mount Zion in the Apollo Conference  Indoor Track and Field Meet.
