Bulldogs remain undefeated after 11 games

After 11 games, both the seventh- and eighth-grade Mahomet-Seymour Junior High boys’ basketball teams haven’t lost.

The Bulldogs extended their streak on Tuesday (Dec. 5) with wins at Bloomington George Evans. The seventh-graders were victorious 47-22 and the eighth-graders were triumphant, 57-41.

The eighth-graders held Evans scoreless until the second quarter and carved a 21-7 halftime lead.

Jackson Golden achieved a season’s high with 19 points. Tristen Adams notched 10 points. Luke Buh and Konner Fisher both tallied eight points.

Other point-makers for the Bulldogs were Camden Beedy (three points), Preston Clark (three points), Colin Hammerschmidt (two points), Bradley Jones (two points) and Jackson Tieffel (two points).

On Thursday (Nov. 30), M-S added to its unbeaten start by sweeping to a pair of wins at Rantoul Eater.

The eighth-grade Bulldogs roared past Eater, 42-12, allowing just five field goals in the contest.

Golden’s 13 points led M-S. Buh scored eight points and was followed by Clark (six points), Hammerschmidt (six points), Wil Selk (four points), Adams (two points), Jones (two points) and Levi Lunney (one point).

The Bulldogs led, 13-5, after one quarter and 33-7 at halftime.

The Bulldog seventh-graders were led at Bloomington  Evans by Nathan Stabler, who registered his second 20-point game of the season.

A.J. Fenelus posted nine points and Jackson Dancer totaled six points. Both Caleb Knox and Jaxson Tiefenthaler ended with four points. Sammy Perez and Tyler Schoudel added two points apiece.

M-S led, 25-8, at halftime.

The M-S seventh-grade squad also overpowered Eater, 51-19, in a game where nine of the Bulldogs’ 18 baskets were from three-point range.

Fenelus scored 12 of his game-high 14 points in the opening quarter. Dancer collected nine points.

Also contributing in the scoring column were Tiefenthaler (seven points), Knox (six points), Perez (four points), Stabler (four points), Evan Franz (three points), Schoudel (three points) and Will Martin (one point).

The Bulldogs built a 23-3 lead after one quarter and increased the margin to 33-8 at halftime.

Dancer drained three three-point shots while Fenelus and Knox made two apiece. Also hitting from beyond the arc were Franz and Schoudel.

Both M-S teams are 11-0 and return to action on Thursday (Dec. 7) at home against Urbana.
