MSHS girls’ basketball on a roll

Makayla Rosenbery hit a season-high for points scored for the third game in a row, helping the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team to its third consecutive win on Monday.

 The Bulldogs (6-5) upended visiting Centennial, 65-37, behind a 24-point outburst from Rosenbery. She hit three three-point shots.

 Also scoring in double figures for M-S was Kailyn Northrup with 12 points. She made two three-pointers.

 The Bulldogs led, 22-11, after one quarter and expanded their lead to 37-15 at halftime.

 Keida Nichols had a team-high five assists. Northrup had four assists.

 Ashley Wheeler led the Bulldogs’ rebounding effort with six. Abby Kyle grabbed four rebounds.

 M-S returns to action on Saturday with a home game against Normal University High.

 Boys’ basketball

 The Bulldogs (5-4) had four double-digit scorers for the first time in one game this season, but visiting Lincoln registered a 65-59 Apollo Conference decision on Tuesday.

 Grant Coleman led M-S with 22 points. Kobe Essien and Connor Kamphaus each scored 12 points.

 Jordan Veldman finished with 11 points.

 Lincoln led, 13-9, after one quarter and 34-22 at halftime.

 Kamphaus, who hit all four of his baskets from three-point range, had a team-high four assists.

 Coleman and Essien each grabbed six rebounds.

 The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday with a home game against Effingham.

 Wrestling

 The  Bulldogs (7-2) split two dual meets at home on Tuesday.

 M-S won all 14 matches — 11 by forfeit — and handed St. Thomas More an 81-0 loss.

 Bloomington defeated M-S 52-17.

 In this week’s state rankings compiled by The Illinois Best Weekly, unbeaten Bloomington is ninth and M-S is 17th.

Four Bulldogs were 2-0 for the night, but only Gage Granadino (152 pounds) and Daunte Roberts (170 pounds) had two contested matches.

 Roberts prevailed by technical fall and pin. Granadino earned two decisions.

 Seth Buchanan (285 pounds) won by pin against Bloomington and picked up a forfeit from the Sabers.

 Braeden Heinold (120 pounds) edged his Bloomington opponent, 7-5, before receiving a forfeit.

 The other M-S athlete to win a contested match against STM was Logan Petro (138 pounds). He had a pin.

 Petro’s triumph makes him the 18th Bulldog with at least one varsity victory this season.

 The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday with a home meet against Decatur Eisenhower and  Westville.
