MSHS Baseball and Soccer remain undefeated

Mahomet-Seymour’s baseball and girls’ soccer squads continued their unbeaten starts to the season with wins earlier this week.

Baseball

The Bulldogs (3-0) overcame a five-run deficit to post a 15-5 win on Wednesday at Clinton.

M-S scored six runs in the third inning, the go-ahead tally scoring on an RBI by Dylan Gates. The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with a nine-run fourth inning.

Brooks Coetzee and Tanner Kirts each had three hits. Coetzee swatted a single, double and triple.

Teammate Austin Biehl had two hits, including a home run. Other Bulldogs with two hits were Lukas Graham and Jordan Veldman.

Dawson Finch struck out three batters in two innings and earned the win. Kyle Mumm pitched three scoreless innings.

On Monday, M-S needed extra innings to edge Danville, 3-2. The winning run scored in the bottom of the eighth inning with Cory Noe driving in the walk-off run on a first-pitch hit. Kyle Kinney’s sixth-inning RBI had pulled the Bulldogs into a 2-2 deadlock.

Kirts pitched two scoreless innings of relief and picked up the victory.

Kinney pitched five innings, scattering three hits. Rick Bohlen worked one inning.

Girls’ soccer

M-S (3-0) registered its third consecutive shutout, blanking Warrensburg-Latham 5-0 in Maroa on Tuesday.

Meredith Johnson-Monfort had a hat trick, scoring twice in the first half to lift the Bulldogs into a 2-0 lead at the break. She also had one assist.

Haley Lester and Nyah Biegler also had goals for M-S. Lester totaled two assists.

Goalkeeper Sarah Hohenstein had two saves.
