Bulldogs finish fourth at Lincoln Eaton Tournament

Mahomet-Seymour’s boys’ basketball finished in fourth place in the eight-school Lincoln Eaton Tournament.

The Bulldogs lost to the host Railsplitters, 51-30, in the third-place game on Saturday (Nov. 26).

Sophomore Trey Peters generated a team-high nine points for M-S. Senior Dayten Eisenmann, who was 4-for-4 from the free throw line, added seven points and senior Wyatt Bohm totaled six points.

Lincoln jumped into a 14-4 lead after one quarter, but the middle two quarters were played even (21 to 21).

Bohm cleared a team-high five rebounds. Finishing with two assists apiece were Adam Dyer and Byron Lynch.

On Friday (Nov. 25), M-S fell victim to Danville, which had dropped its first two games, 70-53.

Jake Waldinger scored a season-high 17 points. Besides knocking down three three-pointers, Waldinger was 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Lynch collected 12 points. Bohm grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

M-S was 7-for-7 from the charity stripe against Danville.

On Tuesday (Nov. 22), the Bulldogs drained 10 of 14 three-point shots, but dropped a 68-63 overtime decision to Belleville West at Lincoln.

Eisenmann (who was 4-for-4 on three-pointers) scored a team-high 17 points. Lynch contributed 12 points and Peters finished with 10 points. Waldinger registered eight points and Carter Selk added six points.

M-S trailed at halftime, 30-28, but shot into a 46-45 lead entering the fourth period. The teams were tied, 59-59, after regulation.

Selk cleared a team-best six rebounds. Peters gathered five rebounds. Eisenmann and Lynch each totaled two assists.

On Monday (Nov. 21), Peters scored a game-high 14 points as M-S opened the season with a 56-41 victory at Centennial.

The game was part of the Lincoln Eaton Thanksgiving Tournament.

Peters hit 6 of 12 shots from the field and also pulled down five rebounds.

The Bulldogs had a balanced scoring attack. Three players scored in double figures and two others ended with eight points.

Bohm and Eisenmann joined Peters in double figures, each chipping  in with 10 points. Eisenmann nailed two three-point shots.

Contributing eight points apiece were Dyer and Waldinger.

Waldinger drained two three-point shots. Bohm had matching totals of six rebounds and six assists. Eisenmann also cleared six rebounds.

M-S (1-3) returns to action on Thursday (Dec. 1) in the Apollo Conference opener at Mattoon. The Bulldogs will be trying to snap a three-game losing streak.

The Bulldogs’ junior varsity team lost to Centennial, 69-35.

In other games on Saturday, Centennial defeated Cahokia, 63-54, for seventh place and Belleville Althoff topped Danville, 55-50, for fifth place.

In the championship game between schools which entered with 3-0 records, Belleville West edged Mount Zion, 63-62.
