Mahomet-Seymour wins Turkey Tournament

Tournament most valuable player Savannah Orgeron scored eight of her game-high 16 points in the third quarter on Thursday (Nov. 17), leading the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team to a come-from-behind 34-29 win against St. Joseph-Ogden in the final game of the Toyota of Danville Turkey Tournament in the Spartans’ gymnasium.

M-S won the round-robin tournament with a 3-0 record. SJ-O, which led 18-16 at halftime, was 1-2.

Orgeron not only was the headliner on the eight-player all-tournament team, but she won the free throw trophy after sinking 76.2 percent of her attempts (16 of 21) during the three-day event.

Kylie Waldinger scored seven points against SJ-O and Durbin Thomas tallied five points.

Abby Bunting pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Orgeron claimed six rebounds, Thomas had five rebounds and Chloe Pruitt claimed four rebounds. Orgeron contributed five steals and Thomas had three steals.

Joining Orgeron on the all-tournament team were Thomas and Pruitt.

M-S returns to action on Monday (Nov. 21) in its home-opener against Urbana.

The Bulldogs’ junior varsity squad won its division of the SJ-O Tournament after defeating the Spartans, 52-10. The M-S JV squad is also 3-0.
