Bulldog softball shuts out Heritage

Kenadi Granadino was 4-for-4 and Karley Yergler slugged a home run for the third time in her last four games on Thursday (April 7) as the Mahomet-Seymour softball squad posted a 26-0 win at Heritage.

Granadino and Yergler each collected four RBI as did teammates Abbey Akers and Brooke Howard. Jenna Wade drove in three runs.

Akers and Howard swatted three hits. Yergler registered two hits.

Jami Marriott tallied four runs. Akers, Jayden Hannah, Howard and Sydney Ward all scored three runs.

Yergler and Akers shared the pitching duties, two innings apiece. Yergler struck out five batters and yielded one hit. Akers allowed three hits and fanned two.

On Saturday (April 9), the Bulldogs extended their winning streak to five games by sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Effingham, 10-0 and 11-6.

Akers, Maddie Cortez and Yergler rapped home runs in the first game. Akers, Granadino, Hannah and Yergler recorded two hits in the game.

Akers had three RBI. Cortez, Hannah and Yergler knocked in two runs apiece.

Yergler (7-0) fired another pitching gem. In five innings, she scattered two hits, walked no one and struck out 11.

In Game 2, Jenna Ward and Yergler each had two hits. Granadino, who belted three doubles in the twin bill, drove in two runs.

Cortez and Yergler each scored twice.

M-S recovered from a 6-4 deficit with a seven-run fifth inning.

Akers pitched the first five innings and earned the win. She walked two and fanned four.

Yergler finished with two innings of one-hit ball and struck out six batters.

Yergler has a current streak of 25 1/3 innings without allowing a run. During that stretch, she has permitted six hits.

M-S (8-1) returns to action on Monday (April 11) at Centennial.
