Both MSJHS boys’ basketball teams on 7-game win streak

Both the seventh- and eighth-grade Mahomet-Seymour Junior High boys’ basketball teams improved their season records to 7-0 with three wins in a six-day stretch.

On Thursday (Nov. 9), the M-S teams topped Paxton-Buckley-Loda, then went on the road to beat Normal Parkside on Monday (Nov 13) and then handled Charleston at home on Tuesday (Nov. 14).

Each M-S squad had to overcome first-quarter deficits to secure the win against PBL.

The eighth-graders trailed PBL 8-7 after one period but went on to post a 46-19 decision. The Bulldogs gave up just two second-half field goals and no points in the fourth stanza.

Preston Clark led M-S in scoring with 12 points. Jackson Tieffel contributed eight points and Jackson Golden made six points.

Other point-makers for the Bulldogs were Konner Fisher (five points), Levi Lunney (four points), Brennan Bailey (three points), Luke Buh (two points), Colin Hammerschmidt (two points), Bradley Jones (two points) and Wil Selk (two points).

At Parkside, the Bulldogs moved into a 20-6 lead after one quarter en route to a 48-14 triumph.

Golden connected for a game-high 15 points. Clark drilled four three-pointers in the first quarter and totaled12 points.

Tristen Adams had eight points, Fisher netted six points and Tieffel finished with three points. Netting two points apiece were Hammerschmidt and Jones had two points.

M-S held Parkside scoreless in the second and fourth quarters.

Against Charleston, Golden connected for 17 points. Adams had seven points. Both Clark and Tieffel swished two three-pointers and added six points.

Buh finished with five points, Jones and Selk each contributed four points and Hammerschmidt put up two points.

The Bulldogs built a 33-5 halftime lead after holding Charleston scoreless in the second quarter.

The seventh-grade Bulldogs were down, 5-2, after one quarter against PBL, but recovered for a 46-13 victory.

M-S limited PBL to one second-quarter point and none in the final period.

Owen Henry led M-S with 14 points. Adding four points apiece were A.J. Fenelus, Will Martin, Stephane Mwilambwe and Jaxson Tiefenthaler.

Evan Franz and Sammy Perez totaled three points apiece. Finishing with two points each were Will Bednar, Landen Benner, Oliver Graham, Tyler Schoudel and Nathan Stabler.

At Parkside, the Bulldogs kept the home team off the scoreboard until the second quarter. M-S registered a 52-19 victory.

Fenelus hit 10 of his 14 points in the opening period and Stabler had 11 of his 13 points in the same quarter. M-S carried a 27-0 lead into the second stanza.

Bednar connected for seven points, Henry totaled six points and Tiefenthaler ended with four points. Jackson Dancer and Caleb Knox put in three points. Martin made two points.

Against Charleston, Stabler became the first Bulldog with a 20-point game this season, hitting that mark thanks to a 6-for-6 showing from the free throw line in M-S’ 58-22 triumph.

Fenelus hit eight points. Dancer and Martin ended with six points apiece.

Knox tallied four points. Registering three points apiece were Franz, Logan Rehberg and Tiefenthaler. Bednar and Perez finished with two points each. Mwilambwe converted a free throw.

M-S led, 22-1, after one quarter.

The Bulldogs return to action on Monday (Nov. 20) at home against Normal Chiddix.
