Athlete of the Week: Mateo Casillas

Mahomet-Seymour sophomore Mateo Casillas is currently participating in two varsity sports, baseball and wrestling, as an updated IHSA schedule overlapped the two seasons.

The 5’11” pitcher has picked up his first 2021 win over Tri-Valley, collecting six strike-outs in two innings. 

The next week, Casillas knocked in three runs in the win over Pontiac before moving on to power a home run and double in an Apollo Conference game against Taylorville. He also pitched three innings and struck out five batters.

Currently, Casillas has a .368 batting average, .536 on base percentage, 10 RBIs and 7 runs.

Wrestling at 195-lbs, Casillas has picked up nine wins for the undefeated Bulldogs.
