By Fred Kroner

Three Mahomet-Seymour volleyball juniors landed spots on the all-tournament team after the Bulldogs won their own 16-team Mahomet-Seymour Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 23).

Headlining the 12-player honor team were Bulldogs Libby Bodine, Caylee Folken and Grace Rodebaugh.

M-S won all five of its matches to tie the school record for wins in a season. Coach Stan Bergman’s Bulldogs are 30-5 with a 18-match winning streak,

The other 30-win volleyball teams were a 30-6 squad in 1995, coached by Pam Negangard, and the 30-3 2005 team, coached by Genevieve Ramos O’Malley.

The current team reached the 30-win mark on the final day of the regular season, sweeping past three foes in pool play: Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond (25-14, 25-16), Seneca (25-10, 25-14) and Springfield Southeast (25-14, 25-12).

In the semifinals, the Bulldogs disposed of Pana (25-10, 25-14). In the championship match, M-S had to overcome a one-set deficit to edge Pleasant Plains, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13.

Third-seeded M-S returns to action in its own Class 3A regional tournament on Tuesday (Oct, 26) opening against fifth-seeded Centennial in the semifinals.
