Winters ties for 35th at State tournament, team places 11th

Senior Ainsley Winters tied for 35th on Saturday (Oct. 8) in the girls’ Class 1A state golf tournament at Decatur’s Red Tail Run Golf Course.

Winters carded 18-hole rounds of 85 and 79 for a two-day total of 164. Her second-day score tied for the 28th-best on Saturday.

For the season, Winters participated in 14 events and posted the team’s low score in all 14. Her nine-hole scoring average was 39.5.

As a team, M-S placed 11th at state with a score of 384 composite and did not make the eight-team cut to compete on the final day.

Other Bulldog participants in the Friday (Oct. 7) included Brooke Hartman and Kayla McKinney, each of whom fired 98s and tied for 91st. They missed the 84-player cut to advance individually to the final round by three strokes.

Other M-S competitors at state were Chloe Merkle (103), Maddy Clark (104) and Elena Tompkins (116).
