The Bulldogs recognized their eight seniors on Tuesday and in the process locked up the Apollo Conference championship.

MS defeated Effingham 5-2 at Middletown Field.

Senior Jacob Janda had three goals and an assist to account for the first four M-S goals.

“Jake Janda had a special night in his final game at home,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said. “His speed and anticipation was something that Effingham could not counter.”

M-S is 14-4-4 overall and 9-0-2 in Apollo Conference action. The conference crown was the first-ever for the school in soccer.

The Bulldogs clinched a conference championship with the 5-2 win over Effingham. The win moves them to 14-4-4 on the season.

Colten Brunner had a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs. Logan Woodward hit the team’s final goal, assisted by Evan Coleman. Eli Warren also had one assist.

The honored seniors were: Caleb Benedict, Colten Brunner, Austin Brummel, Evan Coleman, Luke Creel, Jacob Janda, Kadyn Jones and Charlie Moore.

The trio of Brunner, Janda and Jones have combined for 45 goals this fall.

On Monday, Warren scored his 21st goal as the Bulldogs battled to a 1-1 draw against visiting Normal Community.

Warren was assisted by Nate Lundstrom. The score lifted M-S into a 1-0 advantage.

Normal tied the match before intermission. Neither team could score thereafter.

“The game was a great warmup for the postseason, which begins next week,” Davis said. “Play was back and forth for the entire game.

“Mahomet was able to try some different looks to prepare for possible postseason in-game adjustments. The guys adapted well, and avoided the occasional calamity that can arise with playing new positions. Sophomore Koby Eisenmenger had a great second half organizing the back line.”

M-S will conclude the regular-season tonight at Taylorville.
