The Village of Mahomet opened Sunny Acres Road on July 12 after approximately 3.5 months of construction.

The $1 million reconstruction project came in under budget.

Village Engineer Ellen Hedrick said some manicuring will be done to the project near the end of August or in September. Those funds will come from outside of the contract.

Hedrick reported that she was hearing that residents along Sunny Acres Road were pretty happy with the road.

Mayor Sean Widener said that he believes the Village should put flags on top of the new stop signs located where Sunny Acres Road and Oak Creek Road cross.

The Village has already put a speed monitor on the road to bring awareness of the speed limit reduction to 25 mph.

Hedrick also reported that Campus Communications Group, CCG, a fiber-optic network provider, voiced concern over how they would install fiber optic cables along Sunny Acres without damaging the project.

The Village of Mahomet announced Monday that travelers should expect half-lane closures on the east side of Sunny Acres Rd. from north of Timber Dr. to just south of Pin Oak Dr., on July 29.
Flaggers will be stationed on both ends of the closed areas for traffic safety. The project is not expected to take the entire week.
Additional closures can be expected the week of Aug. 5 on the west side of Sunny Acres from  South of Pin Oak Dr. to Oak Creek Dr. and the week of Aug. 12 on the east side from South of Oak Creek Dr. to the railroad tracks.
