MSJHS track finishes as runner-up at Clinton Junior High Challenge

Mahomet-Seymour’s eighth-grade boys’ track and field team had the individual runner-up in two events on Saturday (May 9) at the Clinton Junior High Challenge.

In the 1,600 meters, Auggie Gaudio outstepped teammate Henry McMurry. Gaudio was second in 4 minutes, 57.02 seconds. McMurry was third in 5:02.09.

The Bulldogs’ other runner-up was 800-meter runner Ethan Peterka (2:13.22). In the same event, Bulldog Preston Sriver ran seventh (2:29.22).

Meet champion in the 13-school event was Bloomington Evans registered 69 points. Runner-up Tri-Valley had 64 points. M-S finished ninth with 27 points.

Six other M-S individuals as well as three relays captured top-10 finishes.

Camden Snodsmith was a two-event placer, finishing ninth in the discus (90 feet, 6 inches) and 10th in the 400 meters (1:04.68).

Jackson Davis was fifth in the pole vault (7 feet, 3 inches), Henry Carpenter was seventh in the 400 meters (1:01.60), Logan Maxson was ninth in the discus (90 feet, 6 inches) and Colin Jackson was 10th in the 100 meters (13.28 seconds).

The top-placing relay was the 800-meter foursome of Parker Wilkins, Jackson, Wade Manuel and Emmett Kearns. They were fifth in 1:49.12.

The 1,600-meter relay ended sixth, featuring Wilkins, Landen Dowers, Manuel and Kearns. Their combined time was 4:23.05.

Jack Meyer, Justus Vrona, Davis and Dowers teamed up for a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter relay. Their time was 53.95 seconds.

The M-S boys’ seventh-grade squad had double placers in three field events, including a 2-3 finish in the pole vault where Brock Evans was second (6 feet, 9 inches) and Pearce Slocum was third (6 feet, 3 inches).

In the discus, Jonathan Franklin placed sixth (93 feet, 1 inch) and Jayvon Tompkins took seventh (92 feet).

In the shot put, Tompkins was sixth (30 feet, 1 inch) and Franklin was ninth (29 feet, 7 inches).

In individual running events, Cody Moen crossed third in  the 1,600 meters (5:24.98) and Adam Smigielski was ninth in the 800 meters (2:40.96).

Two Bulldog relays also fared well.

The 1,600-meter foursome of Garrett Waisath, Evans, Slocum and Franklin teamed up for a time of 4:33.54 and a sixth-place finish.

The 800-meter relay wound up in seventh place. Sharing the baton were Slocum, Charles Richards, Kiptyn Fan and William Bao. Their combined time was 2:00.87.

Team honors went to Rochester (93 ½ points), followed by Normal Parkside (58 points). M-S placed ninth with 24 points.

Both M-S boys’ teams return to action on Saturday (May 14) in the 13-school Mount Zion Class 4A Sectional.
