MSJHS baseball heads into Regional play on 3-game win streak

Pitchers Preston Clark and Camden Beedy combined for a no-hitter on Wednesday (Sept. 6) as the Mahomet-Seymour Junior High baseball team shut out visiting Champaign Franklin, 10-0.

Clark worked 4 1/3 innings, walking one batter and striking out one. Beedy threw the final 1 2/3 innings, fanning four hitters.

Marco Casillas swatted a double and a triple for M-S and scored two runs. Beedy and Wil Selk tallied two runs apiece.

Selk, who hit a triple, had three RBI. Clark and Alex Johnson (who also tripled) drove in two runs apiece. Selk and Brennan Bailey each stole two bases.

On Friday (Sept. 8), the Bulldogs edged St. Joseph 5-4 in their home finale.

Bradley Jones pitched five innings, striking out eight, and earned his fourth win of the season.

Selk worked the last two innings.

Casillas homered and knocked in two runs. Bailey and Colin Whooley also had an RBI.

Bailey, Jones and Whooley had hits, in addition to Casillas. Scoring runs, besides Casillas, were Beedy, Jones, Johnson and Jack Wilks.

On Monday (Sept. 11), M-S handed Monticello a 12-3 setback in White Heath.

Beedy and Casillas combined on a five-hitter. Beedy threw the first three innings and gained the win. He struck out five and walked two.

Casillas pitched two hitless innings, walking one and fanning one.

Bradley Jones crashed three hits and scored three runs. Casillas pounded a solo home run and also tallied three runs. Bailey and Selk each drove in three runs.

Johnson had two RBI. Beedy crossed home plate twice.

M-S takes a 12-2 record into the postseason. The Bulldogs are the top-seeded team in the Champaign Class 3A IESA Regional, which will be played at Spalding Park.

M-S will face the winner of a game between fourth-seeded Danville North Ridge and fifth-seeded Rantoul Eater on Saturday (Sept. 16) in the semifinals.
