Marco Casillas pitches no-hitter in win over Franklin

Seventh-grader Marco Casillas fired a no-hitter for the Mahomet-Seymour Junior High baseball team on Wednesday (Sept. 7) as part of a 13-0 Bulldog victory at Champaign Franklin.

He helped his own cause by driving in three runs and stealing two bases. In four innings, Casillas walked three and struck out seven.

Logan Schmit and Landon Busch collected two hits apiece. Schmit also delivered two RBI.

Busch, Bradley Jones, Parker Henry and Paxson O’Malley all tallied two runs.

On Saturday (Sept. 10), the Bulldogs posted a second consecutive shutout, winning 8-0 at Lincoln.

Three pitchers took the mound and each one permitted one hit. Starter Camden Beedy worked three innings, walked one and struck out six. He earned the win.

O’Malley pitched two innings, finishing with one walk and three strikeouts. Ethan Kempher also went two innings, recording three strikeouts.

Spearheading the offense were Casillas and Dyllin Thomas. Each player blasted a home run and delivered two RBI. Casillas also scored two runs.

Jones cracked two hits and O’Malley tallied two runs.

On Monday (Sept. 12), M-S ended its regular season with a 5-4 loss at home to unbeaten Monticello.

Jones, Casillas, Thomas, Schmit and Henry accounted for the team’s hits. Casillas crossed home plate twice.

The Bulldogs used three hurlers.

Slayton Deck pitched two innings and suffered the loss, though he didn’t allow an earned run. Kempher threw three innings, ending with two walks and three strikeouts.

Tate Kimball finished with two hitless innings.

Top-seeded M-S (11-3-1) returns to action in a Class 3A IESA regional semifinal game on Saturday (Sept. 17) at Mount Zion against either Taylorville or Pana.
