Mahomet-Seymour Swimming defeats Urbana

Mahomet-Seymour won 9 of 12 events – including a sweep of the three relays – and outpointed Urbana on Saturday (Feb. 27) in a boys’ dual swimming meet at the Urbana Aquatic Center, 101-81.

After six events, the Bulldogs trailed by a point.

Two Bulldogs, Aron Varga and Mitch McAnally placed first in all four events in which they participated.

McAnally was a member of the three winning relays. In the 200-yard medley, he joined Max Katz, Varga and Carter Logsdon for a time of 1 minutes, 52.70 seconds.

McAnally anchored the triumphant 200-yard freestyle relay. Teaming up with him were Logsdon, Zach Orr and Mark Gutierrez. Their time was 1:45.05.

The 400-yard freestyle relay featured Katz, McAnally, Owen Kearns and Varga. They were timed in 3:50.42.

M-S had 1-2 finishes in two events. In the 100-yard butterfly, Varga (1:02.95) beat Logsdon (1:06.15) to the finish.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Gutierrez (1:16.37) and Orr (1:19.46) secured the top two spots.

Other Bulldog event winners were Katz in diving (165.80), Varga in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.21), McAnally in the 100-yard freestyle (55.57) and Kearns in the 500-yard freestyle (6:00.54).

Also finishing among the top four for M-S in individual events were Kearns (second in the 200-yard freestyle, 2:14.00), Aaron Smith (fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, 2:34.08, and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:20.64), Gutierrez (third in the 200-yard individual medley, 2:48.24), Logsdon (second in the 50-yard freestyle, 24.76), Orr (third in the 100-yard freestyle, 59.51), Ben Amjad (third in the 500-yard freestyle, 7:24.21) and Katz (second in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:03.37).

M-S (5-2) returns to action on Saturday (March 6) at the Mattoon YMCA against Charleston and Lincoln.
