Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Avery Allen

Mahomet-Seymour senior Avery Allen ended her final season on the volleyball team the same way she had all season, leading the Bulldogs. 

Let’s break down the run she’s had:

  • At the Bulldog Invitational on Oct. 21, Allen showcased her prowess with a whopping 54 kills in four matches, accompanied by 29 digs and nine service aces. Her sterling performance earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.
  • In a commanding victory over Charleston on Oct. 16, she slammed 10 kills.
  • Allen’s all-rounded abilities shone during a two-set sweep against Effingham at home on Oct. 12, with her recording six kills, five digs, and two aces.
  • The Oct. 9 match saw Mahomet-Seymour staging a win over Downs Tri-Valley. Allen was instrumental, chipping in with eight kills, eight digs, four blocks, and two aces.
  • On Oct. 5, the team faced Taylorville, with Allen sparking the offense through her eight kills and a matching number of digs.
  • A near double-double was on display from Allen on Oct. 3 as Mahomet-Seymour celebrated a win at Mount Zion. Her stat line boasted 10 digs, nine kills, and four service aces.
  • Earlier, on Sept. 30, Allen’s play led the team to finish second in the eight-school Pekin Invitational.
  • Another highlight came when Mahomet-Seymour clinched a dominant win against Paxton-Buckley-Loda, with Allen landing 10 kills, serving three aces, and racking up three digs.
  • On Sept. 19 against Effingham, Allen’s performance remained undeterred as she led her team with eight digs, seven kills, two aces, and a block.
  • A fortnight earlier, on Sept. 12, Allen was at the forefront again, leading her team to victory at Taylorville with nine kills and as many digs.
  • Allen’s skills were also recognized at the Edwardsville Volleyball Tournament, as she made her way onto the All-Tournament team.
  • Going back to the start of the season on Aug. 22, she played a crucial role in the team’s sweep at Champaign Central with seven kills and an equal number of digs.
  • In the final game of her Mahomet-Seymour career, Allen signed off in style, recording a double-double with 14 digs and 12 kills, and two more service aces.

Allen plans to play beach volleyball at Boise State.
