M-SJHS Softball on four-game win streak

Mahomet-Seymour’s Junior High softball team put together a four-game winning streak, starting on Thursday (Aug. 11) with a 17-0 win at Champaign Franklin.

Addison Schulze fired a no-hitter and walked no one in an 11-strikeout performance. The Bulldogs took advantage of receiving 15 walks. Joella Snodsmith scored four runs and Makenna Peterka crossed home plate three times. Schulze delivered three hits and four RBI.

On Saturday (Aug. 13), M-S won at Danville North Ridge, 14-2.

Schulze fanned eight batters and walked one. She allowed five hits. Lilly Jones and Margaret O’Donnell each landed two hits. Cora Ummel scored three runs and drove in three runs. Snodsmith tallied three runs.

On Monday (Aug. 15), M-S earned a 16-1 win at St. Joseph.

Schulze permitted three hits, walked no one and struck out five. Schulze and Jones each delivered three hits. Peyton Cox drove in five runs. Snodsmith scored three runs.

On Wednesday (Aug. 17), M-S shut out visiting Champaign Jefferson, 15-0. Schulze pitched a one-hitter, walking one batter and striking out six. Snodsmith had three RBI. Pounding two hits apiece were Schulze, Snodsmith and Jones 

On Thursday (Aug. 18), the winning streak came to an end when the Bulldogs were limited to two hits at Champaign Edison in a 7-3 defeat.

Pfeifer Manuel belted a two-run double. The other M-S hit was a single by Jones.

Schulze pitched six innings, walked one and struck out four.

In the team’s season-opener on Thursday (Aug. 4), M-S lost at home to Monticello, 24-12. Peterka led the way with four hits and three RBI. Jones drove in three runs and Snodsmith scored three runs. Schulze fanned seven hitters.

On Saturday (Aug. 6), the Bulldogs edged Mattoon, 11-10, in a road game. Shelmadine contributed three hits and three runs scored. Jones drove in two runs. Schulze ended with one strikeout.

On Monday (Aug. 8), M-S was shutout at Tolono Unity, 10-0.

The lone M-S hit was by Schulze, who also registered three strikeouts.

On Tuesday (Aug. 9), M-S lost at home to Downs Tri-Valley, 16-3. Cox and Jones each landed two hits. O’Donnell knocked in two runs. Schulze recorded two strikeouts.

M-S (5-4) returns to action on Wednesday (Aug. 24) at home against Clinton.
