Six players scored goals and the defense teamed up for its third shutout of the season on Thursday as M-S topped Taylorville 9-0 at Middletown Field.

Eli Warren scored three goals and Kadyn Jones scored twice to spark the Bulldogs’ offense.

Nate Lundstrom opened the night’s scoring, on an assist from Jones.

Jacob Janda had a goal to go with two assists.

Also scoring were Colten Brunner and Sam Knight, a senior who is primarily a goalkeeper.

“Janda was able to use his speed to penetrate behind the defense,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said. “The keeper shifted over to block his shot, but Jacob was able to steer the ball through the labyrinth of chasing defenders to find Knight. Sam struck it clean into the side to celebrate his first high school goal for the Bulldogs.”

Jones and Logan Woodward each ended with two assists. Warren and Clayton Gibson had one assist each.

M-S started two pairs of brothers on the defensive line. Charlie and George Moore, and Luke and Jacob Creel anchored the back line for the first half of the game. The Bulldogs led, 5-0, at intermission.

Goalkeeper Keagon Ashby stopped all Taylorville shots.

On Saturday, a hat trick by Jones and four assists by Warren sent the Bulldogs past visiting Danville 8-1.

Besides the three goals scored by Jones, Warren and Janda each scored twice and Caleb Benedict picked up his first goal of the season.

In addition to the four assists by Warren, Lundstrom had two assists, Jones had one and Sam Henrichs had one.

“The boys did a great job of staying in the moment and not looking forward to a busy homecoming weekend,” Davis said.

Janda started the scoring with a goal 90 seconds into the match with a ball from Warren. A minute later, Jones received a ball from Warren and struck it past the keeper.

Jones’ Saturday outburst sent him past the 50-point mark for his career. Counting goals and assists, Jones has been involved with 52 M-S goals.

Within the first five minutes against Danville, Warren contributed another goal to lift the Bulldogs into a 3-0 cushion.

Benedict was the 11th different Bulldog to score a goal this season. Janda has a team-high 17 goals, followed by Warren (13) and Jones (12). Warren leads in assists (17) followed by Jones (11)  and Woodward (nine).

M-S is 11-2-1 overall and 6-0 in Apollo Conference matches with a two-game lead over second-place Mount Zion.

The Bulldogs return to action today at Urbana.
