County Clerk notifies residents of scam

The Champaign County Clerk’s office is notifying residents of a phone scam that was discovered late Tuesday afternoon.

The scammer calls from 217-384-3720, the  County Clerk’s office main line, and asks for personal/banking information from individuals to help settle delinquent property taxes. 

The Champaign County Clerk’s office will never personally contact individuals by phone to settle delinquent property taxes. Individuals should never give out personal and or banking information over the phone.  

If anyone in Champaign County receives/received a phone call they should report it to the Champaign County Clerk’s office at 217-384-3720 and the information will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
