Bulldogs Tee off 2018 Season

The first Mahomet-Seymour high school athletic teams to swing into action for the fall season were the golf squads, which opened competition last week.

Boys’ golf

The Bulldogs had different leaders in their first two meets of the season.

At the Tiger Kickoff Classic, at Urbana Country Club, M-S placed seventh in a 14-team field, led by Grant Harvey’s 90. Sawyer Daebelliehn and Alek Strube each carded 95s. Bradon Collins finished at 100. Jackson Glenn had a 105 and Rick Bohlen posted a 106.

M-S won a four-team meet at Monticello, led by medalist Strube (38). Glenn (45) placed fifth, Bohlen (47) was seventh and Harvey (48) ended in 10th individually. Daebelliehn fired a 50.

In the team competition at Monticello, M-S ended with 178, followed by Monticello (185), Maroa-Forsyth (188) and Clinton (194).

Girls’ golf

After placing 11th in the 13-team Charleston Scramble, the Bulldogs finished second in a three-team meet at Normal West.

At the scramble, teammates Emma and Sarah Amjad combined for a team-best 48. Just behind them were Jade Harms and Cece Abramson, who joined forces for a 49.

In the triangular at Normal, Emma Amjad’s 51 led M-S. Sarah Amjad fired a 54, as did Harms. Rachel Burke followed with a 57. Abramson carded a 60 and Emma Yates totaled 65.

St. Thomas More won the meet (166), followed by M-S (216) and Normal West (221) at Ironwood.
