Bulldogs open indoor track season

Mahomet-Seymour athletes took the top two positions in seven of eight events on Tuesday (Jan. 31) as the Bulldogs’ boys’ track and field team competed against Fisher in a non-scored meet at the indoor M-S track.

The meet was the first of the season for M-S.

In the 60 meters, DeAngelo Hughey (7.23 seconds) outstepped Jayvon Irwin (7.54 seconds) to the finish line.

In the 200 meters, Jaxson Themason (28.07 seconds) edged Ryken Kirby (28.28 seconds).

In the 400 meters, Joshua Franklin turned in a 57.47 time. Bulldog Ethan Peterka was third (1:02.42).

In the 800 meters, Blake Dillman (2:04.93) was the winner, followed by Hayden Grotelueschen (2:17.46).

Grotelueshen turned around and won the 1,600-meter race (4:59.01). M-S’ Ethan Ramirez was the runner-up (5:03.74).

In the shot put, Caleb Boykin (44 feet, 3 inches) took first place, followed by Robert Byron (38-10).

In the long jump, Travis Hoffman took the top prize (18 feet) and Franklin was second (16-4).
