Bulldog win Apollo Conference Championship

The Bulldogs rolled to a pair of dual-meet victories on Tuesday (Jan. 25) at Mount Zion, defeating the host Braves, 69-10, before topping Mattoon, 57-21.

M-S is 5-0 in Apollo Conference matches and 25-3 overall with a 19-match winning streak.

Eight Bulldogs were 2-0 for the night, although just two of the grapplers didn’t receive at least one forfeit win.

Tallen Pawlak (138 pounds) registered two first-period pins. Braeden Heinold (152) won twice when his opponents used all of their injury time.

Caden Hatton (106 pounds), Nicholas Demos (170 pounds) and Camden Harms (285 pounds) each won once by pin and once by forfeit.

Stevie Pogue (182 pounds) and Colton Crowley (220 pounds) each had a win by decision and a forfeit win.

Camden Heinold (120 pounds) received two forfeits.

Mateo Casillas (195 pounds) wrestled once and won when his opponent used all of his injury time. Logan Petro (145 pounds) was 1-1 for the night. His win was by pin.

Overall, Bulldog wrestlers were 22-6 for the night with six pins and 11 wins by forfeit.

M-S returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 27) at home against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley and Taylorville. The first match, in the main gym, will start at 6 p.m. Senior Night ceremonies will be held at 5:45.

The team’s seniors are Jacob Dobbins (160 pounds), Ethan Grindley (170 pounds), Cayden Grove (126 pounds), Braeden Heinold (152 pounds), Logan Petro (145 pounds) and Stevie Pogue (182 pounds).

Among the seniors, Heinold has won the most matches this season (35), including his last nine. Pogue is 10-3 in his last 13 matches. Dobbins has 24 wins this season. Petro has 17 wins.
