Anna Lagacy takes first in 100-yard breaststroke at Urbana

The Bulldogs dropped an 85-55 decision at Urbana on Wednesday (Oct. 14) in their final dual meet of the regular season.

Junior Anna Lagacy was the lone M-S swimmer to win an individual event. She prevailed in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 27.43 seconds. The runner-up was timed in 1:27.64.

Lagacy also had a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (3:19.11).

Nine other Bulldogs secured places among the top five, including Natalie Heaton and Kiera McCoy in three events apiece.

Heaton was the runner-up in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:45.07) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:23.93) as well as finishing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (34.21).

McCoy had a second-place performance in the 200-yard individual medley (3:14.22). She placed third in two events: 100-yard butterfly (1:35.18) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:26.59).

Ana Iliff, Marin Minick and Kaitlyn Stewart were two-event placers.

Iliff took second in the 500-yard freestyle (7:57.99) and third in the 200-yard freestyle (3:00.64).

Minick scored third-place finishes in both the 50-yard freestyle (33.41) and the 500-yard freestyle (8:40.99).

Stewart ended fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:38.63) and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (3:06.92).

Four M-S athletes posted top-five performances in one event.

Olivia Ross was second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.51), an event where teammate Liz Hall was fifth (1:25.62).

Diver Elise Hertling was third (132.50) and Trinity Allen was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (2:01.27).

The Bulldogs salvaged a split in two meets on Saturday (Oct. 10) at Lincoln.

The M-S girls’ swimming team topped Lincoln 47-16, but dropped a 73-47 decision to Charleston.

Diver Hertling was first in her specialty.

McCoy was a three-event placer. She earned a third-place finish in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle along with a fourth-place performance in the 100-yard backstroke.

Ross was the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle and added a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.

Two other Bulldogs were two-event placers.

Heaton was second in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard backstroke. Stewart was fourth in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.

Other top-four placers for the team were: Lagacy (second in the 100-yard breaststroke), Iliff (third in the 500-yard freestyle) and Minick (fourth in the 500-yard freestyle).

M-S will compete in the 22-school Champaign Central Sectional on Saturday (Oct. 24) at Centennial High School.
