Mattoon tops Mahomet-Seymour

For the third time in the last four games, the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team played Mattoon.

For the third time in the last four games, M-S lost to the Green Wave. 

The Tuesday (Jan. 11) game at Mahomet was settled in favor of Mattoon, 45-30.

The Bulldogs led, 12-6, after one quarter and 18-17 at halftime, but was limited to four second-half field goals (three by Cayla Koerner) and dropped the Apollo Conference game.

Koerner deposited a team-high 15 points. Ivie Juarez chipped in with seven points. Durbin Thomas notched six points and Savannah Orgeron tallied the other two M-S points.

Juarez cleared a team-high five rebounds. Nichole Taylor grabbed four boards. Koerner and Thomas each produced four steals.

M-S (15-4) returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 13) at home against Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin.
