Talynn O’Donnell breaks fourth school record

Freshman Talynn O’Donnell broke her fourth individual school record of the girls’ swimming season on Tuesday (Sept. 20), helping Mahomet-Seymour edge Olympia, 85-81, in Stanford.

O’Donnell was timed in 2 minutes, 21.43 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley, shattering a mark of 2:25.41, set in 2021 by Eden Oelze.

O’Donnell also won the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.51) and helped two relays to victory.

She teamed up with Lainey Howard, Oelze and Shelby Raver to win the 200-medley relay (2:07.30).

In the 400-yard relay, the foursome of O’Donnell, Maddie Logsdon, Howard and Oelze stopped the clock in 4:15.02.

Oelze was also triumphant in two individual events. She captured top honors in the 100-yard freestyle (59.68) and also was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.20).

The other first-place finisher for M-S was Howard in the 500-yard freestyle (6:04.22).

The Bulldogs copped runner-up finishes in six events.

Logsdon was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:36.10) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:23.41).

Howard was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:33.64) and Raver took second in the 50-yard freestyle (31.19). Trinity Allen was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:43.90).

The other second-place performance was from the 200-yard freestyle relay entry of Logsdon, Reese Harrell, Melody Hobbs and Kayleigh Holt. They were timed in 2:22.16.

O’Donnell’s other individual school records are in the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle.

M-S (4-1) returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 27) at Urbana.
