Sixth ranked Bulldog wrestling tops Sterling

In a Friday night showdown between two state-ranked Class 2A wrestling programs, visiting Mahomet-Seymour overcame a forfeit loss at 113 pounds to decision Sterling 42-33.
The  Bulldogs (13-2) are ranked sixth in this week’s Illinois Best Weekly state poll. Sterling (10-6) is ranked 25th.
Eight Bulldogs won their matches, including four by pin.
The quickest fall was by 138-pound David Spencer in 34 seconds. Other teammates with pins were Chance Decker (126), Wyatt Heimann (170) and Ben Stahl (220).
At 285, David Griffet won by technical fall (18-1 score) in less than 4 minutes.
The Bulldogs’ other winners were Payton Ragona (106), Gage Granadino (145) and Jack Vaughn (182).
Among the Bulldogs who fell short, Lucas Hooper dropped a 5-4 decision at 195.
