Sidewalk Prophets to play in Mahomet on April 23

By Brett McMahon

Mahomet native Cal Joslin returns home with Sidewalk Prophets when the group brings its Songs and Stories tour to Grace Church on April 23.

Joslin is the bassist for the Dove Award-winning group, whose hit songs include “The Words I Would Say,” “Keep Making Me” and “Come To The Table.”

Tickets for the show, which will find lead singer Dave Frey telling stories in between acoustic performances, are available through Eventbrite. Prices range from $12.50-$45 plus service charges with VIP packages available that include a backstage party with the group and devotion time with Frey.

The band’s latest album, The Things That Got Us here was released in 2020 and includes the Top 20 hit, “Smile.” Sidewalk Prophets was formed when Frey and former Rhythm Guitarist Ben McDonald were attending college in Anderson, Indiana. A demo of their music was sent without their knowledge to be part of a campus music competition. From there, performances lead eventually to a record deal.

The band has released five studio albums, a Christmas album, and an Extended Play over the course of the last two decades.
