Sheriff investigating death threat sent to Ammons

Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons received a hand-written letter that included a death threat towards his daughter, Titianna Ammons, on Monday, April 13.

The letter threatened to kill Titianna if Carol Ammons were elected chairwoman of the Champaign County Democrats at its meeting Wednesday, where she did become the chairwoman.

The letter, which was sent to the County Clerk’s office at Brookens Center, 1776 E Washington St. was brought to Aaron’s attention at 9:30 a.m.The Champaign County Sheriff’s office was immediately notified. 

Now, the Sheriff’s office is looking for any information regarding this incident. 

“This is a very serious matter and we want the community to be aware of what is happening,” the press release said. “Again, any information you can share to help this investigation would be greatly appreciated.

Ammons wrote that he and his wife, State Representative Carol Ammons, have received death threats before, but the threat to their daughter has put undue stress and anxiety on the family and employees in the Clerk’s office. .

“While we are taking this threat very seriously, we will not be bullied or intimidated by whomever is behind this,” the Ammons wrote. “Titianna is strong, focused, and resilient in the face of all of the challenges she’s facing and she/we will not be moved!”  

“We will not speculate on the individual’s motives or plans, but we are taking this threat seriously and we’re asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the author.  We know some people don’t particularly like us and are not happy about the positions we hold in this community, but this should cross the line in everyone’s book.”
