MSJHS Baseball kicks off 2020 season with win over Unity

Mahomet-Seymour opened the junior high baseball season on Monday with a 12-4 win at Tolono Unity in Brian Bajer’s debut as the M-S head coach.

The teams were locked in a scoreless battle until the Bulldogs plated four runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Peyton Cox, the first of three M-S pitchers, earned the win. He worked 4 2/3 innings, scattering four hits while striking out three. Raymond Long worked 1 1/3 innings before Nolan Johnson finished the win by striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Long led the Bulldogs’ eight-hit offensive attack with two hits. He scored twice as did teammate Gavin Bailey. Five different Bulldogs stole bases.

M-S returns to action on Thursday at home with a 4:30 p.m. start against Mount Zion.
