MAYC Foundation accepting applications for 2023 Lee Jessup Youth Leadership Scholarship

The annual Lee Jessup Youth Leadership Scholarship established by the MAYC Foundation in 2018 to honor the memory and legacy of Lee Jessup will begin accepting applications beginning March 1st, 2023 through March 31st, 2023.

Students who have participated in or have been impacted by Mahomet Area Youth Club (MAYC) supported programs or activities during their time as a Mahomet-Seymour student are eligible to apply.  Students can apply by contacting their MSHS guidance counselor, or by downloading the application on the webpage (http://www.mshscounselors.com) under the “Scholarships” tab.  

The Lee Jessup Youth Leadership Scholarship encourages and supports Mahomet area youth by awarding $500 payable to an accredited institution (college or vocational training) to which the recipient has been accepted. Recipients are eligible to receive $500 each year of post-secondary education up to four years, totaling $2000.

Lee Jessup was a lifelong educator who served for 27 years as Principal at Seymour Grade School and Lincoln Trail Elementary School. More than an educator, he was a “larger than life” leader within the community who exemplified the qualities that he endeavored to impart to thousands of students who passed through the doors of his school. Lee was also a founding member and past President of the MAYC Foundation Executive Board, and served as a leader, volunteer and major supporter of the Mahomet Area Youth Club (MAYC) organization for 23 years, from its founding in 1994 until his death in 2017.

Recipients are selected by the MAYC Foundation Board of Directors, and among the criteria used to consider the applicants. 

  • Graduating Mahomet-Seymour student, including alternative school students, who plan to pursue post-secondary education at an accredited college or vocational school.
  • Participation in and impacted by Mahomet Area Youth Club (MAYC) supported programs or activities during time as a Mahomet-Seymour student
  • Community service while in school
  • 2.5+ GPA or significant GPA improvement during the academic year
  • Economic need
