Mahomet updates Facility Agreement to include Barber Park Splash Pad rentals

The Village of Mahomet will update their Barber Park and Indoor Facility Agreement to include options to rent the Barber Park Splash Pad, which is expected to open by late summer 2022.

While the Splash Pad will be open to the public during designated hours, it will also be available for daycares and private parties to rent during the morning hours. After one season, staff will reassess and adjust both public open hours and private rental hours as necessary based on use and demand.

The rent collected will help offset the price of water, which will be absorbed by the taxing body.

MPRD decided to go with a flow-through splash pad model instead of a recycled model, hoping to save taxpayer money up-front. The recycled-water system also has additional regulations for holding tanks, chemicals, and bathhouses that the Village was hesitant to take on. In later phases, the water runoff will be collected and used to irrigate raised soccer fields.

Water usage will be regulated by zones that are set to timers. As the user activates a zone, water will flow for a predetermined amount of time. Once that time is up, a user will have to reactivate the zone.

Renter must be at least 21 years of age and responsible to see that all activities are properly controlled and supervised. Adequate adult chaperons, one for every 10 children under the age of 18, must be provided.

As approved by the Board of Trustees, rental prices will be $200 for 2 hours time for residents of the Village and a $400 fee will be assessed for for-profit organizations for 2 hours time.
