By Fred Kroner

Kenadi Granadino’s sixth-inning hit drove home Karley Yergler with the tie-breaking run on Tuesday (March 15) as the Mahomet-Seymour softball team completed a comeback with a 4-3 season-opening softball win at home over Tolono Unity.

The Bulldogs trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the second inning before regrouping to send James Heinold home with a win in his first varsity game as head coach.

Granadino, Yergler and Brooke Howard all delivered two hits for the Bulldogs.

Yergler scored two runs and drove in two runs. Abbey Akers accounted for both of the M-S stolen bases.

Yergler also pitched a complete game and carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. She walked two batters and struck out 10, finishing with five consecutive scoreless innings. Unity managed one hit, a single.

M-S (1-0) returns to action, weather permitting, on Friday (March 18) at home against Westville.
