M-SJHS girls track and field takes seven events

Mahomet-Seymour athletes won seven events on Saturday (May 1) in the Mount Zion girls’ track and field invitational.

Competing in the seventh-grade meet, Bulldog sixth-grader Hannah Martin was a two-event winner.

Martin captured top honors in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2 minutes, 43.43 seconds. Her margin of victory was 2.69 seconds. She also won the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 2 inches.

Other seven-grade individual winners for the Bulldogs were Anniston Huff (400 meters, 1:09.62) and Camryn Nelson (100-meter hurdles, 20.08).

Two seventh-grade M-S relays were also dominant. The 800-meter foursome was timed in 2 minutes, 2.57 seconds and beat the runner-up team by 3.52 seconds.

The 1,600-meter relay unit was victorious in a time of 4:42.39, which was 3.17 seconds ahead of the second-place team.

The other individual winner for M-S was eighth-grader Maddie Logsdon in the shot put (26 feet, 4 inches). The runner-up in the event was Bulldog teammate Kendyl Petro (25-0).

Logsdon also captured third in the discus (69-3) and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (21.52). Petro was the runner-up in the discus (70-8).

Another second-placer for M-S was eighth-grade high jumper Brenna Graddy (4-6). Graddy also added a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters (14.84).

Several other M-S participants were two-event placers.

In the eighth-grade meet, Kara Carney was third in the long jump (13-1 ¾ ) and eighth in the 100 meters (15.04). Classmate Kelsie Fuoss took third in the pole vault (6-6) and sixth in the 200 meters (31.35).

In the seventh-grade meet, Ella Walk was fifth in the 800 meters (2:49.34) and 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (27.73). Besides winning the 100 hurdles, Nelson ended eighth in the long jump (11-4). Another seventh-grader, Cara Tandy, finished in a tie for sixth in the high jump (3-8) and 13th in the 400 meters (1:23.36).

In the weight events, seventh-graders Reese Harrell and Annabeth York were double placers. Harrell was sixth in the discus (50-0) and ninth in the shot put (17-5). York was 10th in the discus (40-9) and 11th in the shot put (14-6).

The seventh-grade 400-meter relay wound up in second place with a time of 1:02.38.

Other top seventh-grade performances for M-S were Kimberly Schoonover (fourth in 100 meters, 14.73), Madalyn Marx (third in 200 meters, 29.02), Paislee Welge (fourth in 200 meters, 29.66), Hadley Grotelueschen (third in the 1,600 meters, 6:08.74), Taylor Mills (fourth in the 1,600 meters, 6:10.12), Haley Reed (fourth in the long jump, 12-10 ¾ ).

Eight other M-S eighth-graders wrapped up top 10 performances.

Phoebe Truax was fourth in the pole vault (6-6), Emma Frazier was fourth in the 800 meters (2:53.50), Morgan Waisath was fifth in the 800 meters (2:56.75), Chloe Bundren was fifth in the 1,600 meters (6:30.97), Emma Busch was sixth in the 400 meters (1:16.92), Ava Jansen was seventh in the 1,600 meters (6:30.72), Isabelle Scheele was ninth in the 200 meters (32.27) and Kylyn Ross was 10th in the long jump (10-10).

The three eighth-grade Bulldog relays all grabbed top three placements.

The 400-meter squad was second in 1:00.65. Both the 800- and 1,600-meter relays were third. The 800 foursome was timed in 2:05.40 and the 1,600 relay crossed the finish line in 4:59.93.

M-S returns to action on Thursday (May 6) at St. Joseph.
