Letter to the Editor: Support for Lang, MacKay, Richardson

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my support for Laura Eden-Lang, Patrick MacKay and Rebecca Richardson for our school board.  I first met Laura three years ago when my family moved here from Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Our sons played soccer together and Laura’s genuine kindness and positive energy was so welcoming!  When I heard she was running for school board I was thrilled.  She is what is great about Mahomet; genuine, smart and brave.

Because I know Laura and I wanted to be informed about the independent candidates I set up a virtual Meet and Greet for my neighborhood.  I also invited newcomers, Patrick MacKay and Rebecca Richardson.  It was a well spent hour.  They seamlessly shared the space, respected each other’s diverse opinions and thoughtfully answered the questions of our neighborhood.  I was so impressed with Patrick’s background in technology and his well versed answers about finances.  I was especially excited to hear that he has young kids in the district.  His commitment will be to our children!  He will make sure all our decisions center on our kids and their futures!

Rebecca was the perfect compliment to our discussion.  She was patient and smart.  She has a keen eye for finances and a history in our community.  After our meeting she even contacted me personally to further discuss my families unique demographics and to pick my brain as a long term educator.  I truly felt her commitment to our community and students.

We are at a turning point in our history.  Whether we are ready or not our world is getting smaller.  Our decisions are more important than ever.  Please Mahomet, open your hearts and minds, welcome this change.  Show our children that the world is a beautiful place and that everyone matters.  We have grown so much in the last 5 years, we are like a blank page.  Lets make our story beautiful!

Vote for Laura, Patrick and Rebecca on April 6!  Vote for a bright future for Mahomet!

Sincerely,

Susan Jackson
