Letter to the Editor: M-S PTO President supports Keefe

My fellow M-S PTO board member and friend, Ken Keefe, is running for the Mahomet-Seymour school board. I am writing to happily endorse him for this position. I can tell you first hand that Ken will be a seriously valuable member of the school board because he has been so helpful to the PTO board.

I am the current president of the PTO and have served on the board with him over the past few years. Ken is currently our communications secretary, but he has also served in the past as our treasurer for two years. During his time as treasurer, Ken helped us focus our annual budget and keep our spending on track.

One of the first things Ken did when he was elected treasurer was to reorganize how we managed our finances so that our books were completely open and public online. I remember he advocated for publicly-accessible financial records because he considered it a demonstration of honesty to the community that so generously donates to the PTO during the Dawg Walk each year. I know one of the issues he is talking about for this election is increasing school board transparency. I believe he will work for increased board transparency because that is exactly what he did with the PTO’s finances.

I also would like to mention Ken’s great work ethic. Ken has worked on the Dawg Walk for many years, but this year was the first time he took the lead on our annual fundraiser. I can tell you from experience that the Dawg Walk is very complicated to manage and time-consuming. This year, our Dawg Walk fundraiser shattered donation totals from previous years and earned over $100,000 for the first time!

Please join me in casting your vote for Ken Keefe on April 2nd. He is exactly the kind of school board member our community needs.
