Kristina Robinson is “Decently Bold”

By Brett McMahon

It was an unexpected compliment.

A former employer told Kristina Robinson that she was the “most decently bold person I have ever worked with.”

The phrase struck a chord with Robinson. But it wasn’t quite time to use those words.

“I held onto that compliment and tucked that phrase away. I have been waiting for the right time to use it,” Robinson said.

Like many things in Robinson’s life, that opportunity came down a winding path of unexpected surprises and hard work. It’s led to this moment of her new business, “Decently Bold”, a story branding and storytelling business that also incorporates her passion for kids, caretakers, and fitness.

“Both initiatives are focused on serving others, just in different ways. I’ll tell my clients to focus on a niche, but I’m finding it impossible to do what I say,” Robinson said.

Working with people of all ages, Robinson’s primary goal is to encourage individuals and businesses alike.

Her passion for fitness began almost a decade ago when she held Zumba classes under the Barber Park pavilion. She went on to incorporate a lively and inclusive environment at Bridle Brook Assisted Living Facility, helping residents connect with their young hearts through song and friendship. That same spirit was brought to children in dance classes in BLAST when the Mahomet Area Youth Club held after school programs at Lincoln Trail Elementary.

Today Robinson hosts low-impact dance fitness classes through the Mahomet Parks and Recreation Department while also building programming through Decently Bold Kids and Caretakers.

“These things are educational and creative works that will be done through music, movement, and words,” Robinson said.

Robinson has begun to take that motivational spirit to other venues. She’s taken on a few speaking engagements and plans to offer a variety of courses for those interested.

But for others who haven’t quite found their voice or feel overwhelmed by the number of outlets there are to manage as a business owner, Robinson is hoping to use Decently Bold as a way to use her writing skills to get the word out.

“Business owners know that brand awareness and social media presence are important, but often they’re so in the weeds with their craft they don’t make it a priority,” she said. “DB’s efforts as your story branding author will free up time for businesses to stay in their genius zone. These types of collaborations can be short-term or ongoing.”

This process involves helping businesses or initiatives that strive to make a difference through utilizing social media, copywriting, and branding. With so many irons in the fire, Robinson says she and her husband are using Decently Bold to create a legacy for their children and extended family.

Writing of any fashion is therapeutic for Robinson, who says it gives her an outlet to curb anxiety, create memories, make people laugh, and much more. Being able to do that with decency and boldness while serving and helping others allows her to share the gifts she’s been given.

Living boldly is a promise that she made to a friend years ago.

“There was a long season of my life where I was unwell,” Robinson said. “At the peak of all the sickness, a medical doctor told me to begin to make arrangements as there were no answers and my body was beginning to give up.

“A friend of mine at the same time was battling cancer. We vowed to one another that if either of us made it to the other side and found health we would LIVE fully. Well, I am the one that made it and I made a promise to her to LIVE. This new project will use the gifts I have been given coupled with my heart for serving others to point us all toward the sunshine of life.”
