Ice Cream and Friends at Museum of Grand Prairie September 19

Ice Cream is always good. But ice cream with friends, even new friends, is so much better.

The Museum of the Grand Prairie will host its second annual Make Ice Cream with a New Friend event on September 19.

The event is part of the University YMCA’s and Welcoming America’s Welcoming Week, a growing movement of inclusive communities that fully embrace New Americans and their contributions to the social fabric of America

Make Ice Cream with a New Friend fulfills the mission by bringing together local immigrants with U.S.-born residents to promote cross-cultural understanding and raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone.

Education Programs Specialist Kate Snyder said nearly 100 people attended last year’s event. She also said by introducing immigrants to local residents and Museum programs, many visitors frequented the Champaign County Forest Preserve District throughout the year.

Champaign schools are out of school during the event, which will take place from 1 to 3 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
