Caroling with Kreps December 17

My favorite part of any concert is at the end when the energy is so high and you can’t distinguish one voice from another because everyone has come together in a way that makes the world feel right.

The world, in many ways, also feels right around Christmas time.

The twinkle lights add sparkle, the presents under the tree say you’ve thought of someone you love, the laughter at any party makes the whole year seem right.

There’s something else special about Christmas: the way the holiday makes Steve Kreps light up.

For those of you who do not know who Steve Kreps is, he is a retired fourth-grade teacher who taught for over 20 years and has continued to impact student’s lives as a Mahomet-Seymour High School football and basketball coach.

While he was a teacher, he took his students and their families on a caroling trip each year. The class would get on a bus, visit assisted living homes and fire stations, eat pizza together, then knock on the doors of staff to sing a carol to them, too.

It was the highlight of nearly every fourth-grade student’s year.

For some, caroling is nostalgic. It may be something your grandma dragged you to do when you were little or it may be something that you’ve always wanted to do, but have never found anyone to do it with.

Well, this year, Steve Kreps and Faith Swartzendruber, friend of Steve and owner of Simply Well Studios, alongside the Mahomet Daily would like to invite you, your family and friends to come together on December 17 to sing.

Caroling with Kreps will begin with your willingness to carol in your neighborhood, in a different subdivision or at an assisted living home at 5:30 p.m. For an hour, your group will travel from home-to-home, spreading Christmas cheer for all to hear.

If you do not see your subdivision or a place you would like to carol on this list, please email dani@mahometnews.com and we can get that set up for you.

Then at 7 p.m. all of the carolers will meet on Main Street in downtown Mahomet to sing Christmas carols as a large group for about a half-hour.

This event is free, meant to bring people together and for all of us to have fun. Please join us for this one-night event of community. Let’s make the world right for just a moment.
