Bulldogs win four events at Apollo Conference meet

Mahomet-Seymour athletes were victorious in four events on Saturday (March 11) in the Apollo Conference Indoor Girls’ Track and Field Invitational at Mount Zion.

Madalyn Marx was triumphant in the 400 meters, winning by 1.50 seconds. Her time was a season-best 1 minute, 1.39 seconds.

Marx also ran a leg on the Bulldogs’ winning 800-meter relay, which produced a combined time of 1:53.98. She was joined by Lauren Burr, Karlie Fuoss and Kelsie Fuoss.

Burr captured top honors in the long jump (season-best 19 feet, 6 inches). Meah Beacham won the triple jump (season-best 33 feet, 5 inches).

Distance runners Ava Boyd and Chloe Bundren claimed runner-up finishes in their specialties. Boyd was second in the 1,600 meters (season-best 5:24.10) and Bundren was second in the 3,200 meters (season-best 12:23.12).

Kelsie Fuoss placed third in the pole vault (season-best 9 feet, 5 inches).

Also taking third was the M-S 1,600-meter relay, a unit that consisted of Marx, Burr, Bundren and Boyd. Their cumulative time was 4:28.17.

Karlie Fuoss ended fourth in the long jump (15 feet, 4 inches) and the Bulldogs’ 3,200-meter relay was also fourth (11:12.32). The relay runners were Morgan Waisath, Jinan Abdo, Emma Frazier and Callie Jansen.

M-S had eight other individuals capturing top-10 finishes, including Abi Weiss in two events. Weiss was sixth in the pole vault (season-best 8 feet 5 inches) and was seventh in the triple jump (28 feet, 3 inches).

Karlie Fuoss was seventh in the 200 meters (season-best 29.90 seconds).

Kara Carney tied for eighth in the high jump (4 feet, 2 inches) and Hannah Hofbauer tied for eighth in the pole vault (6 feet, 1 inch).

Adding ninth-place finishes were Beacham (season-best 30.25 seconds in the 200 meters), Frazier (season-best 2:43.70 in the 800 meters) and Johnson (24 feet, 6 inches in the triple jump).

In the team chase, Mount Zion had a winning score of 106 points. Runner-up M-S totaled 77 ½ points. Twelve teams submitted entries.

M-S returns to action in the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor Meet (the unofficial state meet) at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Shirk Center on Saturday (March 25).
