Bulldogs outlast Spartans

By Fred Kroner

Karley Yergler pitched a three-hit shutout and struck out 17 batters on Thursday (April 28) as the Mahomet-Seymour softball team escaped with a 1-0 win on the road at St. Joseph-Ogden.

The win was the 14th of the season for Yergler. She has reached double figures in strikeouts in 12 games.

M-S produced six hits and scored the lone run in the seventh inning when Jenna Wade’s double drove in Sydney Ward.

Maddie Cortez stroked two of the M-S hits. Wade’s double was the only extra-base hit for the Bulldogs. Ward reached base twice, with a single and a walk.

Neither team made an error and the two pitchers collectively issued just three walks.

M-S (16-2) returns to action on Wednesday (May 4) at Downs Tri-Valley.
