Bulldogs open season with back-to-back wins at Turkey Tournament

Three different players scored in double figures as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team opened the season with back-to-back victories in the second-annual Toyota of Danville Turkey Tournament at St. Joseph-Ogden High School.

Savannah Orgeron poured in 22 points on Monday (Nov. 14) in a 64-11 verdict over Centennial.

Kylie Waldinger chipped in with 11 points, Abby Bunting added eight points. Grace Binkley and Chloe Pruitt each contributed six points.

Orgeron pulled down six rebounds. Waldinger and Alayna DeWitt each handled five rebounds.

Bunting led M-S with four steals. Both Durbin Thomas and Waldinger finished with three steals apiece.

In a 51-39 triumph over Tri-County, the Bulldogs’ defense limited the Titans to three first-half field goals on Tuesday (Nov. 15).

Orgeron again led the way with 14 points. Thomas dropped in 11 points. Waldinger tallied eight points and Pruitt netted seven points.

Orgeron grabbed seven rebounds. Binkley and Waldinger collected six rebounds apiece.

Bunting and Thomas each came through with four steals.

M-S (2-0) tries to clinch the tournament championship on Thursday (Nov. 17) against the host Spartans in the 7:30 p.m. finale.

The Bulldogs’ junior varsity squad is also in search of a tourney title after overpowering Centennial, 62-16, and Tri-County, 51-4.
