Bulldog basketball picks up two of three

The Mahomet-Seymour eighth-grade basketball team split its first two games played last week, winning 36-31 at Clinton on Monday (Dec. 6) and then succumbing to George Evans 34-13 on Tuesday (Dec. 7).

On Thursday (Dec. 9), the Bulldogs rallied at home to defeat Urbana, 32-27.

Cade Ashby and Landyn Hannah each fired in 11 points against Clinton.

M-S trailed 10-7 after one quarter, but Hannah tallied eight of his points during a second-quarter run that lifted the Bulldogs into a 16-14 advantage.

Jackson Bohm added five points to the M-S cause.

Against George Evans, Bohm, Hannah and Ryan Pruitt shared the team lead in scoring with three points apiece.

M-S trailed, 19-8, at halftime but hopes of a comeback ended when the team was outscored 13-0 in the third stanza.

M-S used an 8-for-9 showing from the free throw line in the final quarter to upend Urbana. The Bulldogs trailed 6-3 after one quarter, 13-8 at halftime and 24-20 after three quarters.

M-S (9-4) returns to action on Thursday (Dec. 16) at home against Champaign Edison.

The Bulldogs’ seventh-grade team dropped two of its three games last week, beating Clinton at home, 32-18, on Monday (Dec. 6), then losing at George Evans, 54-42, on Tuesday (Dec. 7) and ending the week with a narrow 38-36 loss at home to Urbana.

Paxson O’Malley notched a team-high 13 points against Clinton. Parker Henry added five while Landon Busch and Eli Dyer each contributed four points. Finishing with two points apiece were Coy Benway, Jesiah Hall-Harpst and Bryson Tiefenthaler.

Against George Evans, Ben Ohms netted a team-high 13 points. He was followed by O’Malley (11) and Dyer (five). Also reaching the scoring column were Braylon McDermand (three points), Benway (two), Landon Busch (two), Andrew Kassem (two), Joe Roller (two) and Tiefenthaler (two).

Parker Henry (nine points) led the way against Urbana. O’Malley contributed eight points, Tiefenthaler tossed in six points. Benway and Dyer each added four points and McDermand ended with three points.

M-S (8-5) returns to action on Thursday (Dec. 16) at home against Champaign Edison.
