Boykin, Marshall and 800-m relay win at Mount Zion

Mahomet-Seymour had two individual winners and one relay winner on Tuesday (Feb. 21) in the nine-team, non-scored Mount Zion Indoor track and field mini meet.

Caleb Boykin was triumphant in the shot put (43 feet, 9 inches) and Cole Marshall took first in the triple jump (season-best 41-4).

The Bulldogs’ 800-meter relay foursome posted a season-best time of 1 minute, 37.81 seconds. Running on the winning relay for M-S were DeAngelo Hughey, Jayvon Irwin, Marshall and Travis Hoffman. Hughey opened the relay with a 23.2-second split for 200 meters.

M-S had top-six finishers in all 10 contested events.

Three Bulldogs were among the leaders in the pole vault. Ty Clark was second (season-best 13 feet), Alex Carpenter was fourth (11 feet) and Jackson Davis was fifth (8 feet, 7 inches).

In the 1,600 meters, three M-S runners were near the top of the pack. Hayden Grotelueschen was third (4:49.85), Ethan Ramirez was fourth (season-best 4:51.81) and Ben Wallace was sixth (season-best 4:53.01).

Hughey was the runner-up in the 60-meter dash (7.23 seconds). Irwin placed fifth (7.43 seconds).

Hoffman placed in two events: third in the long jump (18 feet, 3 inches) and fifth in the triple jump (37 feet).

Blake Dillman captured third in the 800 meters (2:03.83) and Ryken Kirby was sixth in the 200 meters (season-best 25.90 seconds).

Both Bulldog leaders in the 60-meter hurdles registered their top times of the indoor season. Jaxon Themanson ran fifth (11.03 seconds) and Joshua Franklin finished sixth (11.21 seconds).

Other schools besides M-S and Mount Zion in the meet were Greenview, Iroquois West, Judah Christian, Monticello, North Mac, Villa Grove and Warrensburg-Latham.

M-S returns to action on Saturday (March 11) in the Apollo Conference Indoor Invitational at Mount Zion.
